    A: Do you carry black ink?
    B: The ink should be next to the paper clips and thumb tacks in the stationary section, sir.
    A: I've looked, but I didn't see any black ink.
    B: Then I'm afraid there's none in stock.
    A: Well, I'll settle for blue-black. I'll also take a dozen airmail envelopes.
    B: They come in packages of ten or twenty.
    A: Give me a package of twenty, then. And where do I find shoelaces?
    B: On counter three.
    A: Thank you. I never can find my way around this store.
    B: I know. It took me three weeks, and I work here.

    A: Every time I go to the grocery, the clerk asks me if I save stamps. I always say no, but sometimes I get them anyway.
    B: Oh, never turn them down. You can always find someone who'll take them. People spend hours pasting them in little books, and when a book is full, they drive miles to a redemption center where the stamps can be traded for things like pillow cases, or playing cards, or garden tools. But you have to save millions of them to get anything worth having.

    B: I checked it out of the rental library. It only costs five cents a day.
    A: Is it really worth paying for?
    B: I can't tell yet. I haven't got beyond the first chapter.
    A: If it's any good, I'll buy a copy when it comes out in the pocket edition.

    A: Sounds like a good idea. Why don't we go this Sunday?
    B: I can't make it. I'm busy all weekend, but next Sunday I'm free.
    A: It's a date. You furnish the lunch and I'll provide the transportation.

    B: Well, I want to get a tan and I haven't time to lie in the sun, so I lie under the sun lamp every night for five minutes.
    A: That's finr, as long as you don't fall asleep. An hour under one of those things and you'd be just a cinder.

    B: Way up in the first balcony. We can see and hear fine, though. Isn't it a wonderful performance?
    A: Oh, yes, the acting's good, but don't you think that the star's a little old for her part? From where we are in the orchestra, you can see every wrinkle on her face.
    B: That's why I like balcony seats. You don't lose the illusion.
    A: Oh, there's the buzzer. I'll see you after the show.

    A: I weet to the travel agency today and picked up these folders on Japan, Normandy, and Quebec.
    B: For this summer? Have we saved that much money?
    A: Not this summer. In two or three years, maybe. I have it almost all worded out. Here. Normandy, and then the Chateau country. Somewhere in these we'll have to work in Nice for the carnival. Then we take the Orient Express to Istanbul from there.
    B: But what do we do this year?
    A: Oh, I thought we'd go to one of the national parks-Yosemite, or Yellowstone, or maybe the Grand Canyon-that is, if it's all right with you.

    B: I thought for a while I'd go to one of the summer schools, but I've decided I'm tired of classes and books and working all the time. I'm going to relax. I'm not going to do a thing for three months.
    A: Three months is a long time. When September comes you'll have got out of the habit of working. Why not just wait for two weeks and then see how you feel.
    B: I might, but I don't think I'll ever change my mind.
