The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is the first Spanish institution and the third European university according to the QS Ranking of the World’s Top 50 Universities under 50 years old. Founded in 1968, this university offers an extensive range of studies, organized into eight schools, as well as several affiliated centers, like the Red Cross Universitary School of Nursing and the ONCE School of Physiotherapy.
With more than 25.000 students and 3.000 academic staff members, this university has two campus: the prestigious Faculty of Medicine, close to Madrid′s La Paz Hospital, and the Cantoblanco Campus, which is situated 15 km to the north of Madrid, immersed in nature. In addition, this campus has an excellent connection with the city center, including a train station, with direct line to Puerta del Sol in 20 minutes. It has, as well, several services buildings, like a sports complex, Music and Language Learning centers, student residences and a Doctoral School.
Besides its great studies offer, this university has an ambitious employability plan and numerous agreements with other institutions, inserted in the framework of the Campus de Excelencia UAM-CSIC. 二、馬德里自治大學(xué)的歷史
The UAM Faculty of Medicine opened its doors for the first time in 1969 with a study programme that was extremely advanced for its time, in an attempt to change the way medicine was taught in Spain. This study programme introduced innovative ideas, including a revised definition of teaching objectives, integration and coordination between the different areas and subjects, and more attention to the practical training of students, based both in the laboratory and on constant contact with patients. The initial teaching goal of the Faculty of Medicine was to comprehensively train doctors so that once they completed their studies, they would be fully competent to move onto different specialities or embark upon a scientific career in biomedicine. These premises have been strengthened over the years and have been continually adapted to the changing needs of the society that we care for.
The Faculty has increased the number of academic degree programmes that it currently has on offer. We offer 4 different degree programmes: Medicine, Nursing, Biochemistry, Human Nutrition and Dietetics. The latter two are taught in conjunction with the UAM Faculty of Sciences. The Degree in Nursing has been taught at the Faculty since the 2010/11 academic year, with the three university nursing schools previously affiliated to the university now fully incorporated. As part of the different degree programmes, students complete work experience at the six hospitals linked to the university (divided into 4 teaching units [UDs]): the La Paz University Hospital teaching unit; the Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda University Hospital teaching unit; the Fundación Jiménez Díaz teaching unit; the La Princesa University Hospital teaching unit, Santa Cristina University Hospital & Ni?o Jesús University Children’s Hospital. We also have a functional clinical teaching unit for family medicine and primary care which includes the university healthcare centres linked to the UAM.
