1.International Student
Applying to St. Francis Xavier University as an International Student is quick and easy. International students fill out the same application as domestic students, using the same academic admissions requirements.
Academic Requirements
For high school graduates, the minimum requirements include an average of 70% in Grade 12, with no marks below 65% in each of the required subjects.
Note: Admissions is competitive, so higher averages may be required in certain programs
EARLY FALL ADMISSIONS
Students who have a Grade 11 average of 80% or higher may be considered for Early Fall Admissions prior to their first set of Grade 12 marks being available.
Note:
A completed application, Grade 11 transcripts and a Grade 12 course list must be received by February 1 to be considered for Early Fall Admission. Please also note that admissions is competitive, so higher averages may be required.
Due to the competitive nature of the program, Early Fall Admission is not available for Nursing.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
There are language requirements (below) for applicants whose first language is not English. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English competence.
The IELTS test is preferred and strongly recommended.
Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admissions to undergraduate programs at St. Francis Xavier University.
Students with IELTS scores below 6.5 may be considered for admission conditional on the completion of a program designed to improve English language competency to an IELTS 6.5 equivalent.
Other acceptable tests are:
MELAB (minimum score required is 90)
TOEFL (minimum score required is 92)
CAEL (minimum score required is 70)
Note:
All scores must be submitted using official documents (photocopies/scans will not be accepted).
Students who have completed at minimum two years of study at an institution where English is the language of instruction will be considered for admission without a test score.

Students who do not meet the minimum English language requirements are encouraged to enroll in StFX's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. The program is also suitable for:
Students planning to enter university but who have not yet been accepted
Students who have attained the required language test scores but who feel they need more intensive work in academic English and study skills in order to perform as well as possible in their credit courses
Both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those in high school and community college
Students in the EAP program experience life at university through organized visits to lectures on campus in different academic disciplines.

2. International Baccalaureate Students
StFX welcomes and encourages applications from International Baccalaureate students. Please note the following:
Students will be considered for admission using the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with a minimum score of 24.
Students admitted to StFX with a score of 30 or higher on the IB Diploma, and who have received a score of at least 5 on all higher level and standard level courses, will be granted up to 30 credits. Students who have any one minimum score falling below 5 will have their courses individually assessed for possible transfer credits.
Students who have completed IB courses but who do not possess the diploma, or who scored less than 30 on the IB Diploma, may receive individual university course credit if they have achieved grades of 5, 6, or 7 in higher level courses.

3.MATURE STUDENTS
Students who have not fulfilled the typical admission requirements but who have been out of school for at least three years may be considered for admission. We assess your academic background and past employment, and consider each applicant on an individual basis.

4.TRANSFER STUDENTS
StFX welcomes applications from students who wish to join the StFX community and have completed credit courses at a university or college. Courses completed at another university or college may be applied to a degree at StFX. These courses – known as transfer credits – are recognition of the academic coursework completed.
A transfer student is one who has attended a college or university since graduating from high school. Note: A student currently in high school who has completed college or university courses will be considered for admission as a high school applicant, not a transfer student, but will be eligible for transfer credits.
Students interested in transferring to StFX must meet the admissions requirements, for degrees at StFX.

If you are currently attending a post-secondary institution in Nova Scotia, find out about possible course equivalencies at MyNSFuture.ca.
The transfer credit review process will take approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Assessments may take longer if supporting documentation is required.
StFX will consider all previous coursework for transfer credit.
A maximum of 60 credits will be granted for transfer.
The structure of some programs may limit the number of transfer credits eligible to be granted.
StFX offers transfer credit for relevant courses with a grade of 50% or higher.
Grades for courses accepted for transfer will not appear on the StFX transcript.
Grades for courses accepted for transfer are excluded from StFX average calculations.
In order to graduate from StFX with an undergraduate diploma or degree, a student is required to complete a minimum of 50% of the required credits at StFX.

TRANSFERRING CREDITS TO STFX IS EASY.
Here is what you need to do:
Submit an application for admission to StFX.
Request your current university or college to send an official transcript, detailing the courses you have completed or are in progress, directly to StFX.
In some cases, StFX may also ask you to submit detailed course descriptions for courses you completed at your previous university or college. All course descriptions must be in English.
THE REVIEW PROCESS: WHAT HAPPENS AND WHEN WILL YOU KNOW ABOUT YOUR TRANSFER CREDITS?
StFX will review your courses for transferability and inform you of the outcomes as quickly as possible. The time required to complete the review can vary, but will generally fit within a 4--6 week timeframe.
AFTER THE REVIEW: HOW YOU CAN USE YOUR TRANSFER CREDITS?
Any courses that can be transferred to your program of study at StFX will reduce the number of credits needed to complete your program at StFX. The number of previous credits that can be applied to your program depends upon two things:
the courses you completed; and
the number of transfer credits permitted in your program of study.
