1. 住房建議
英國(guó)的房費(fèi)較為昂貴，很多中國(guó)學(xué)生初到英國(guó)都感到震驚。如果能做到事先有所準(zhǔn)備，那么就會(huì)較容易適應(yīng)了。這是我們謹(jǐn)提出以下建議：
( 1 )可向您將要就讀的大學(xué)、學(xué)院申請(qǐng)學(xué)生宿舍。一般的大學(xué)都會(huì)優(yōu)先考慮海外學(xué)生的申請(qǐng)。多數(shù)大學(xué)的宿舍設(shè)施都很好。一般的單人房間內(nèi)都有書(shū)桌、臺(tái)燈、衣櫥、洗面池等，在同一單元內(nèi)與其他學(xué)生共用廚房、冰箱、衛(wèi)生間、淋浴間。很多宿舍內(nèi)都備有投幣式電話。如第一學(xué)年住在學(xué)生宿舍可以有很多機(jī)會(huì)結(jié)識(shí)來(lái)自其他國(guó)家的學(xué)生，并能較快地熟悉環(huán)境。
( 2 )如您有朋友在英國(guó)讀書(shū)或工作也可請(qǐng)他們幫助物色住房。
( 3 )到英國(guó)后可從各種報(bào)紙的分類(lèi)廣告中尋找合適的住房。在倫敦可參考專(zhuān)門(mén)刊登房地產(chǎn)、廣告的報(bào)紙“ LOOT ”。住房的出租廣告通常用縮寫(xiě)形式以節(jié)省篇幅。例如：
“ 2 d bd det hse nr stn, gge, ch, unfurn, 2 mins tube, gdn, 155pw. ”
上面的廣告可以這樣理解：
2 double bedrooms in a detached house near the station, with garage, central heating, unfurnished, 2 minutes from the tube, with garden, 155 week rent.
其他縮寫(xiě)形式：
gch=gas central heating
wc=toilet(water closet)
1 recep=one reception(livingroom or ounge)
s/c=self furnished
ff=fully furnished
pw/pm=per week/per month
all mod cons=all modern convenience(all facilities are uptodate)
p.c.m.=per calendar month
m/f=male or female
exlusive= 需另付煤氣、水電等費(fèi)用。
inclusive= 包括所有費(fèi)用(電話費(fèi)除外)。
2 .住房的種類(lèi)
( 1 ) Halls of Residence 大學(xué)的學(xué)生宿舍。
( 2 ) Students House 學(xué)校為學(xué)生租用的房子，一般是 3-8 人住 1 棟房。
( 3 ) Detached house 獨(dú)立的房子(別墅)。
( 4 ) Semi-detached house 連棟的房子。
( 5 ) Flat 公寓(相當(dāng)于美國(guó)的 apartment )。
( 6 ) Flatshare 一個(gè)公寓由 2 人或更多的人分租。
( 7 ) Bedsit 是 bedroom 和 sitting-room 的合成詞，一般配好家具的房間，但洗手間、廚房可能與房東共用，也可能與其他房客共用。
( 8 ) Boxroom 沒(méi)有窗子的小房間。
