THAAD anti-missile system
On July 8, the US and the Republic of Korea (ROK) announced that they will deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), an advanced anti-missile system, in the ROK. Countries in the area including China and Russia have expressed strong opposition to the decision, saying it will destabilize security in the region. China said it will consider taking necessary measures to safeguard national and regional security.
