I had known about the Great Wall since I was a child, and I finally get to see it in person today.
我從小就知道中國有萬里長城.今天終于親眼見到了.

Yeah! The Great Wall is indeed great. To build walls amongst high mountains is not too easy.

The Great Wall was made of earth first and rebuilt with bricks during the Ming Dynasty, which is what we see now.
長城原來是用土修筑起來的.到了明代才改建了磚石結(jié)構(gòu).就是我們現(xiàn)在看到的這樣.

Was it used for defense purpose in the past?
早先修長城完全是為了防御吧?
凱特:
Yeah, but during the Qing Dynasty, it slowly lost its original function.
是的.可是到了清代逐漸喪失了防御作用.
亨利:
