couple（+of）可以表示兩個同類的東西或人，比如：
We just need a couple more chairs so everyone can sit down.
我們還需要兩把椅子，大家就都有座位了。
There’s a couple of girls waiting for you outside.
有兩個女孩在外面等你。
還可以表示“幾個”的意思，如：
I don’t know why I feel so bad, I only had a couple of drinks.
我不知道為什么這么難受，我只喝了幾杯。
在文中，couple指的則是“小兩口”，也可以表示未婚的情侶，舉個例子：
In Venice we met a South African couple.

今天的小教室里，我們重點講解一個常用而且意思很多的短語give away。
1、give sth. away
如果某樣?xùn)|西你不再需要或者別人比你更需要它，你就可以give sth. away to another person（丟掉、送人），比如：
I need to give away some of these old baby clothes.
我要把這些舊的嬰兒服送人。
如果一個公司gives away something，那可不是他們在做慈善活動，而是一種促銷手段，可以理解為“附贈”的意思，比如：
They’re giving a plastic model skeleton away with a children’s book on the body.
他們在一個塑料骨骼模型的身體里附贈了一本育兒書。
如果下次再見到某樣商品寫這give-away的字樣，別誤以為是要丟棄的，而是“贈品”。
2、give sb. away
文中的用法意思是“在婚禮上把(新娘)交給新郎”，可做這項工作的不總是父親，也可以是家族中的其它長輩，比如下面這個人就是哥哥主持的婚禮：
She asked her eldest brother to give her away.
此外，這個短語還可以表示“泄漏”的意思，
His accent gave him away as a northerner.
他的口音讓人聽出他是北方人。
不過，如果中間的sb是oneself的形式，通常表示這個人做了什么錯事被人發(fā)現(xiàn)了，有“露馬腳”、“現(xiàn)原形”的意思，比如：
Most shoplifters gave themselves away by constantly looking around for cameras.
商店里大部分扒手都是由于不停尋找攝像機而露出馬腳的。
