Justine: And why do you want to work at the Plaza Hotel?
鮑勃： 這是因為廣場酒店的聲譽(yù)極佳，不僅是因為它的服務(wù)水
準(zhǔn)，同時它也是一個愉快的工作場所。
Bob: Because it has a great reputation… not just for its service,
but as a good place to work.
杰斯丁剛才所問的問題是招聘面試中出現(xiàn)頻率非常高的一個問題。
雇主希望通過這個問題獲知你到底對他的生意有多少了解。鮑勃對
這個問題的回答比較籠統(tǒng)，但是還可以接受。在你的實際生活中，
你可以根據(jù)自己的實際情況對這個問題做出更加詳盡的回答。例
如，你可以列舉這家酒店所吸引的顧客群體的情況等等。

Justine: Come in, Bob. I’m Justine Asker, the manager. You can call
me, Justine.
Bob: Pleased to meet you.
Justine: Sit down. Firstly, Bob, can I ask which job you are applying for?
Bob: I’m applying for the receptionist position.
Justine: I see that you have a Diploma in Hospitality. Have you done
any front desk work before?
Bob: I have work experience in front desk. You have my supervisor’s
report there. This will be my first paid position.
Justine: And why do you want to work at the Plaza Hotel?
Bob: Because it has a great reputation… not just for its service,
but as a good place to work.
Justine: I’m glad to hear it.

方面適合于你所應(yīng)征的工作。在這種情況下，你不需要自吹自擂，
你只要列舉出一、兩項自己適合于這一工作的優(yōu)點和長處就可以
了。而在談到自己的缺點時，雇主也往往希望你能夠?qū)ψ约河幸粋€
正確的認(rèn)識。不過你在回答這方面的問題時千萬不要列舉有可能導(dǎo)
致你應(yīng)征失敗的缺點，比如說自己會習(xí)慣性地上班遲到，或者經(jīng)常
在工作中忘東忘西等等。好的回答就是列舉出一項可以將其轉(zhuǎn)化
為積極因素的“缺點”。讓我們來聽聽鮑勃是怎么說的。
鮑勃： 嗯，目前來看我的英語理解能力比我的口語能力要好得
多。不過我仍在家中自學(xué)，而且我希望這份工作能夠給
我更多學(xué)習(xí)的機(jī)會。

Bob: Well, I understand English much better than I speak it at the
moment. But I study at home and I look forward to learning

您聽出來了嗎？鮑勃就是這樣將自己的缺點轉(zhuǎn)化成了應(yīng)征工作時的
一個積極因素。他通過這樣的說法首先承認(rèn)自己有不足的地方，同
時又說明自己愿意改進(jìn)。哪一個雇主會有理由不雇用這樣的員工
呢？
在接下來的課文中，請注意當(dāng)鮑勃沒有完全明白杰斯丁提出的問題
時他是如何回應(yīng)的。

開始他的問話： Do you mean……? 您的意思是說。。？請跟著
