2.2 陶瓷，再次選校（十月中旬－十一月上旬）
考完CCIE以后我就回學(xué)校了，那時(shí)候大概是十月中旬。十月中下旬的時(shí)候Abroad版
搞了一次版聚，當(dāng)時(shí)大家基本上都是剛開始準(zhǔn)備，我連學(xué)校都沒有選好，去湊了湊
熱鬧，認(rèn)識(shí)了小鹿師兄和其他很多飛友。
從十月下旬開始我一邊準(zhǔn)備申請(qǐng)材料一邊陶瓷。陶瓷信一般要很簡(jiǎn)短，把自己的優(yōu)
點(diǎn)寫出來(lái)，讓教授一目了然。教授也都很狡猾，一般在這個(gè)時(shí)候絕對(duì)不會(huì)說(shuō)肯定會(huì)
要你之類的話，一般都是說(shuō)你的條件不錯(cuò)，鼓勵(lì)你申請(qǐng)。我自己的經(jīng)驗(yàn)是，一般前
20的牛校，即使助理教授都不會(huì)輕易回信；20名以后的學(xué)校，一般助理教授都會(huì)很
熱情的回信，副教授和教授的回信率大概是30%左右?，F(xiàn)在記得的當(dāng)時(shí)給我非常熱情
回信的，一個(gè)是Lehigh的一個(gè)助理教授，向我介紹了他的方向，非常熱情地邀請(qǐng)我
申請(qǐng)，并且叫我在PS中注明希望到他的實(shí)驗(yàn)室；一個(gè)是CUHK的教授，告訴我說(shuō)我的
條件非常好，鼓勵(lì)我申請(qǐng)，而且跟我說(shuō)了獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金有兩種形式，一種是系里給錢的要
系里的錄取委員會(huì)決定，還有一種是教授給錢的教授自己可以決定，并且說(shuō)申請(qǐng)中
遇到什么困難都可以找他；另外一個(gè)是ASU的教授，給我回了一封很長(zhǎng)的信：
I DO NOT HAVE TO have another student, but will leave the door open for
an excellent applicant. Financial support is always available for such s
tudent.
Although I respect your right to apply to many places, I ask you to be s
incere with me. As much as I know about the Chinese universities, you ma
y also know about some kind of rankings of US universities. ASU is a ver
y good (and rising) school, but not a top school yet. Last year, I allow
ed a top student from USTC to hold the ASU offer for some time but event
ually went elsewhere. I let him go. But starting from this year, I will
not allow that to happen. You (or your fellow applicants) may wonder how
. ×××
So, it is complete OK for you to apply to many places. However, once I m
ake you an offer and you agree to, you should drop your contacts with ot
her places immediately. Otherwise, I will help you lose the offers from
most places, including ASU.
××× This requires both talent and hard work. I expect to have more fr
om future students. As such, I will have telephone interview for each su
ccessful candidate, after going through the application materials.
I hope the above is useful to you. If you are seriously interested, plea
se send me whatever (including copies of your transcript) you believe ar
e representative. There is no hurry, think carefully.
