簡而言之，即結(jié)構(gòu)分析——句子劃分——詞義推敲——檢查核對
1 結(jié)構(gòu)分析：英語重結(jié)構(gòu)，多長句，多從句，所以結(jié)構(gòu)分析，一是判斷劃線部分是什么句型，二找出句子的主干，有什么修飾語以及詞與詞之間是什么關(guān)系。
A 句型，方便起見分為：簡單句和復(fù)合句。判斷句子屬哪個句型就是看句中有幾個謂語動詞：
如果只有一個位于動詞——簡單句；
有一個以上謂動，有兩種可能:
a. 是動詞并列作謂語，標志是第二個動詞或最后一個動詞前有并列連詞and/or/but；
b. 是有從句出現(xiàn)，標志是有從句引導(dǎo)次（有時可能會省略從句引導(dǎo)詞）。
B 修飾語，主要指定語，狀語和插入語。
2 句子劃分：按意群用斜線（/）將一個長句切成好幾段。如下句：
Category Ⅱ contains only four items,/and I shall say no more about them/except that ,(since they are under consideration),we shall not let the grass grow under feet,/but attempt, (as early as possible), to arrive at a common understanding/ in the interest of humanity.
分析：這是個典型的多重復(fù)和句，據(jù)它的意思，將整句切為五段：第一、二段是兩個并列的句子，第三段是except that 引導(dǎo)的狀語從句，其中since they are under consideration是插入語，我們用括號標出；第四、五段共同構(gòu)成與第三段shall not let the grass grow under feet并列的位于部分，其中as early as possible 也是插入語，用括號隔開，in the interest of humanity是較為復(fù)雜的介詞短語作狀語修飾整個except that 引導(dǎo)的狀語從句，所以單獨構(gòu)成一個翻譯單位。
切分原則：以下類型要分開：主干與修飾語，主句與從句，并列成分間，多個修飾語間，多個從句間，很長的主語與謂語部分。
3．詞義的推敲：不必看完全篇，但須結(jié)合要譯句子的上下文的語言環(huán)境進行理解推敲。它是四步中最難的，希望大家在做題訓戀時多加注意。包括把代詞譯為名詞，把被動變成主動，把變化處理成重復(fù)，把抽象化為具體，把省略的東西補充進來，把整個句子試譯出來的方面。
A詞義推敲的主要依據(jù)：
a根據(jù)常識從多種詞義中作出正確選擇，
b根據(jù)詞的本義發(fā)揮想象力，
c根據(jù)相關(guān)的詞進行搭配式處理，
d根據(jù)文章的中心思想和關(guān)鍵詞對詞義做出相應(yīng)調(diào)整加工。
B 詞義推敲的重點：代詞，名詞，動詞，非謂語動詞，變化表達，抽象表達，省略表達，習慣表達
4. 檢查核對，重點放在a. 代詞翻譯是否到位；b. 名詞翻譯是否正確；c. 動詞翻譯是否正確；d.修飾語與修飾對象是否能很好地配合；e.從句與主句的邏輯關(guān)系是否出錯；f.慣用法是否譯的符合中文習慣；g.整個譯文是否具有完整性；h. 整個句子是否讀起來通順。
