    My Beloved Teacher
    章陽
Teachers are often called “engineers working on the souls of human beings”。 Everyone is taught by many teachers in his life. And I have met about thirty teachers since I went to school. Zhang Lizhen, my first teacher, is one of those I will always remember.
Ten years ago, I was sent to school. On my first day at school, I found that the boy sitting beside me had a very nice pencil sharpener①with a picture of “Monkey King” on it. I liked it very much, and I was eager to get it. So when he was away, I took it and hid it in my schoolbag. But I was filled with fear. I didn't dare to leave my seat.
Now the bell rang, announcing the end of classes. The students left for home one by one. But the owner of the pencil sharpener didn't leave. He was looking for it. The teacher came close to him and asked, “What are you doing?” “Oh, I have lost my new pencil sharpener,” he said. “It is very nice. My father bought it in town.” “Do you remember that you have brought it here?” “Yes. And I used it just now.” Tears came to his eyes. “Don't worry, my son. Let me help you.” The teacher began to search for the sharpener here and there. Of course, she couldn't find it. The boy began to cry. “Don't cry, my boy,” the teacher wiped his tears off his face. “Tomorrow, I'll ask your classmates if they have seen it. Now, go home first.” She led him out of the classroom. All the time I put my hands in the schoolbag and held the sharpener tightly. I felt my heart beating very fast. I couldn't say anything but dropped my head lower and lower. After a while, the teacher came to me. “Why don't you go home? Are you waiting for your mother?” she asked me. “I, I…” my voice was trembling. I took out the pencil sharpener slowly and began to weep. My teacher understood. She looked at me affectionately, saying, “My boy, you are an honest child, though you made a mistake. Since you know you were wrong, I think you are still a good boy.” Then she patted me on the shoulder, “Remember, you'll be a good student.”
The next day, the teacher gave me a nice pencil sharpener. She didn't say anything but gave me a meaning smile. Her words and smile were engraved on my memory②。 I have kept the sharpener, because it tells me how to be an honest boy. And I will never forget my first teacher——Zhang Lizhen.
