The Revolution of 1911
The Revolution of 1911 refers to the nationwide revolution that occurred in the year of Xinhai (a lunar calendar that refers to 1911 to early 1912). Its goal was to overthrow the monarchy of the Qing Dynasty and establish a republic. The pivotal moment in the revolution was the Wuchang Uprising that broke out on the night of October 10th, 1911. This was soon followed by a declaration of independence from the Qing Dynasty from all provinces. On February 12th of 1912, Emperor Xuantong of the Qing Dynasty released an imperial edict declaring his abdication. The Revolution of 1911 toppled the Qing Dynasty and planted the seed of a republic in the minds of the nation.
