How do students apply?

To encourage postgraduate research at Victoria, the University offers scholarships to students about to begin a full-time, research-focussed Master’s degree.
Over thirty scholarships shall be offered, consisting of a $15,000 stipend, plus domestic fees. International students, other than those from Australia will be liable to pay the difference between the full international student fee and the domestic fee.
Purpose of award
Applications are sought from those who are eligible at the time of application, or who will have become eligible within six months of notification, to enrol for a Master’s degree by thesis worth 90 points or more. What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
* Scholarship recipients will be expected to sign the Victoria Postgraduate Scholarship Contract.
* Once the period of tenure of a scholarship has commenced, the University Scholarships Committee may, at its sole discretion, grant a scholarship recipient a deferment of their scholarship for a period of up-to six months. In most cases such a deferment will coincide with a formal suspension from their enrolment in the Master's degree. A scholarship shall be terminated and the corresponding proportion of the scholarship emolument forfeited, if a scholarship recipient ceases to resume the aforesaid programme of research or advanced study within one month of the last day of the period of deferment.
* Scholarship recipients shall be required to devote themselves full-time to their programme of research during the tenure of the scholarship and may not hold a position of emolument without the approval of the University Scholarships Committee. Approval may be given for scholarship recipients to undertake paid employment (usually tutoring) for up to a maximum of 600 hours in one calendar year.
* Each scholarship recipient and his/her principal supervisor shall provide a progress report to the Scholarships Office six months after the commencement of the scholarship. Where progress is not satisfactory, the matter will be referred to the University Scholarships Committee.
* The University Scholarships Committee may at any time suspend or terminate a scholarship, or require the forfeiture of such proportion of the scholarship emolument as it may determine, if the scholarship recipient is not diligently pursuing their programme of research, has violated the University Statute on Conduct, or has failed to comply with any of the terms and conditions on which the scholarship was awarded.

The International Student Achievement Scholarship offered by Victoria University of Wellington is based on academic achievement, leadership and/or engagement with the community.
Purpose of award
The purpose of this Scholarship is to recognise and reward excellence and engagement of currently enrolled international students who have a strong academic record and leadership potential.
Selection criteria
The Scholarship is available to international students who are currently studying an undergraduate degree at Victoria University of Wellington. Applications will also be considered from international students who are in their final year of a Victoria undergraduate degree and are continuing on to postgraduate study at Victoria University of Wellington.
The Scholarship will be awarded based on:
Achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 7.0 (A-) or above. The GPA is calculated on the two most recent trimesters. First year undergraduate students are eligible to apply in their second trimester.
Demonstrated leadership and/or community engagement. Leadership and community engagement may include, but is not limited to, active participation in the University’s leadership programmes, buddy or mentoring programmes, or other types of service that positively contributes to the wider community.
Where applicants have an equally strong academic record and demonstrated leadership and/or community engagement, then financial need will be taken into consideration when awarding the Scholarship(s).
How do students apply?
Students who wish to be considered for this Scholarship must submit a:

The funds shall be paid to the successful recipients’ university tuition fees accounts after confirmation of full-time enrolment at Victoria University of Wellington in Trimester 1 the following year.
The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with any other scholarship or financial assistance with the exception of the Victoria International Excellence Scholarship.
Decision makers

To encourage the study of Ecology and Marine Biology at Victoria University.
Selection criteria
* The Scholarship shall be awarded annually to a full-time student enrolled in a BSc (Hons) or MSc in Ecology or Marine Biology.

* In making the award the panel may take into account not only the academic merits of the candidates but also their financial needs.

The grants are funded from the Student Assistance Scheme, and were established in 2000.
Purpose of award
These grants are to encourage students who are facing financial hardship to continue in their studies at Victoria University.
Selection criteria
Open to all students who are studying at Victoria University of Wellington including domestic, international, undergraduate, postgraduate, part-time and full-time students.
For the round closing in January, applicants must have studied in the previous academic year. For the round closing in September, the applicant must be enrolled to study in summer trimester.
Additional information
Closing dates for applications:31 January,15 April,30 September(if the closing date is a weekend or holiday, applications will be accepted on the next working day)
These grants are for up to $2,000 and the number and value of each grant is at the discretion of the selection panel whose decision is final.
