Students’ Activities 1. Students are to read the text quickly, and then answer the questions according to the text. 2. Read Paragraph 3 carefully, and then answer the question ---Why did “the little tramp”become Charlie Chaplin’ famous character ?3. Read Paragraph 4 and fill in the blanks
。4. Find out the sentences that can account for Charlie Chaplin’s success from the text.

通過一張發(fā)笑圖片引出問題:what are you laughing for? What forms of humour do you know? 由此導(dǎo)入,來介紹以下幾種常用的幽默方式:mime, verbal jokes,short sketch,crosstalk,comedy,p antomime,funny pictures, funny stories/poems, clown.
(介紹幽默方式時(shí),先用圖片來提示學(xué)生,再讓學(xué)生根據(jù)圖片來說出相對(duì)應(yīng)的幽默形式。)
本環(huán)節(jié)設(shè)計(jì)意圖:這個(gè)單元以幽默為題,需要讓學(xué)生了解幽默的表現(xiàn)形式有哪些,并為下一步了解課文內(nèi)容打下基礎(chǔ),因?yàn)檎n文介紹的就是nonverbal humour方面的大師----卓別林。
II.Pre-reading
通過guessing 小活動(dòng)來引出課文要介紹的人物——卓別林。He was a great mime artist who was famous for his silent movies, such as The Gold Rush. Who was he? 然后問學(xué)生了解卓別林多少,并引出他的以下幾部經(jīng)典影片:Little Tramp,The Gold Rush,Modern Times, City Light.
(先出影片中的某個(gè)片段的圖 片,以引導(dǎo)學(xué)生說出這些著名的影片。學(xué)生當(dāng)然可以自由地說出更多信息。)

IV.Skimming
給學(xué)生五分鐘時(shí)間通讀全文,總結(jié)出每段的段落大意。
(對(duì)于有些難總結(jié)的段落,教師可適當(dāng)提示,比如問學(xué)生這個(gè)段落的關(guān)鍵詞是什么,或者哪句是主題句。)

V.Careful Reading
1. Paragraph 1&5
要求學(xué)生仔細(xì)閱讀第一段和第五段,找出下列三個(gè)問題的答案:
1) Why do people need cheering up as Victor Hugo said?
2) What did Chaplin do to cheer people up?
3) Why is Chaplin loved and remembered by people?
設(shè)計(jì)意圖:通過三個(gè)問題的設(shè)置,把第一段和第五段的主要信息提煉出來,要學(xué)生去查明。之所以把第一段和第五段放在一塊,一方面是因?yàn)檫@兩段內(nèi)容都不多,分開閱讀浪費(fèi)時(shí)間;另一方面是因?yàn)榈谝欢魏妥詈笠欢味际侨目偫ㄐ缘膶?duì)于卓別林的介紹。
2. Paragraph 2
Read Paragraph 2 carefully and then finish the chart.

People like the character “the little tramp” because he was a social failure.
(為了更形象直觀地讓學(xué)生了解流浪漢的形象,教師特意用了圖片展示出“流浪漢”的外形特征,這樣要求學(xué)生不看書,根據(jù)圖片來描述。
本環(huán)節(jié)設(shè)計(jì)意圖:這段主要介紹卓別林塑造的一個(gè)典型形象---流浪漢。所以要求學(xué)生根據(jù)圖片來描述流浪漢的外形特征不但感官上直接,也訓(xùn)練了學(xué)生口頭描述的能力,而后面陳述句的正誤判斷則進(jìn)一步讓學(xué)生深入理解“流浪漢”這個(gè)角色受觀眾喜愛的原因以引發(fā)學(xué)生深入理解和思考卓別林所塑造的人物形象。
