Qualifications and Fund Disbursement
All scholarships, bursaries and financial awards are disbursed to students’ tuition accounts on a per-term basis. Successful applicants will receive 50% of their award after the fall Scholarship Selection Committee Meeting (usually in late August or early September) and the other 50% will be applied to their Term II balance. While every effort will be made to have awards applied to students’ accounts prior to the payment deadlines for each term, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to make sure their tuition and housing balances will be paid by the due dates for each term.
Required Grades
Students who are attending Brandon University from high school are required to have achieved a minimum high school average of 85% for scholarships, or 75% for bursaries. Students who are returning to Brandon University or who are transferring credit from another institution must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 for scholarships, and 2.0 for bursaries.
Required Credit Hours
Scholarships, bursaries and awards have minimum registration requirements based on the dollar value of the award. They are:
Under $800.00 – at least 6 credit hours (3 credit hours per term)
$800.00 – $1,799.99 – at least 18 credit hours (9 credit hours per term)
$1,800.00 and over – at least 24 credit hours (12 credit hours per term)
In most cases, the previous year’s GPAs and credit hours are what determines a student’s eligibility. In the case of students in Graduate or Post-Diploma studies, a full-time student is considered to be one registered in 9 credit hours for the Regular Session.
*Board of Governor’s Entrance Scholarships require that a student must be registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours per term in order to receive and maintain the scholarship.*
*In some cases, the Terms of Reference (or “Details” column of the Scholarship Database) may indicate that the standards for the award are either higher or lower than what has been outlined above. In ALL cases, students need to review the Details of the award that they are applying for to see if they meet the criteria. This could include cumulative GPAs, specific courses or years GPAs, full- or part-time status, degrees, majors, minors, or even criteria such as place of employment, hometown, or community volunteerism.

In all cases, the Registrar is empowered to authorize such variations as may be necessary to reflect the course schedules of individual high schools.
