Ⅰ. animal “動(dòng)物” 是區(qū)別于植物而言，是動(dòng)物的總稱，通常指獸、鳥、蟲、魚等。如：

② The animal is hungry. 這個(gè)動(dòng)物餓了。
Ⅱ. beast “四足動(dòng)物”通常指不包括爬行動(dòng)物的較大的四足動(dòng)物。如：
① The camel is a beast of burden. 駱駝是負(fù)重的動(dòng)物。
② The tiger is a beast of prey. 老虎是猛獸。
