Some residents in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, have been asked to pay one-third of the value of their houses when they try to sell their property, reported Beijing Youth Daily. The local government claims that the extra fee is to extend their land use rights, as the existing ones are close to expiring. However, according to property law, land use rights will “automatically renew” after expiration.

中國城市的土地是國有(State-owned)土地，居民、商業(yè)企業(yè)等獲得國有土地使用權(quán)的方式是出讓(transfer)，期限為(the maximum term)為70年。
