高考英語詞匯詳解：finally的用法
1. 表示先后順序的“最后”、“終于”，通常放在句首。如：
The carwouldn’t start, so finally we decided to go on foot. 汽車不能發(fā)動(dòng)，所以我們最后決定走路去。
此用法尤其用于在列舉時(shí)引出最后一項(xiàng)。如：
He lived in Turkey, France, Norway and finally Mexico. 他曾在土耳其、法國、挪威等國住過，最后還在墨西哥住過。
2. 表示等了好久才“終于”，此時(shí)通常放在謂語動(dòng)詞之前 。如：
After several long delays, the plane finallyleft at 6 o’clock. 在幾次長時(shí)間的耽誤之后，飛機(jī)終于在6點(diǎn)鐘起飛。
When he finally arrived he explained he had lost hisway. 他最后趕到時(shí)，他解釋說他迷路了。
3. 表示決定性的或不再更改的“最后”。如：
It is not finallysettled yet. 這事還未最后解決。
4. 區(qū)別 finally, at last, in the end。如：
三者都可表示經(jīng)過許多變化、一段等候或一番拖延或曲折之后的“最后”，但有細(xì)微區(qū)別：finally 語氣較輕，且平鋪直敘，一般不帶感情色彩，有時(shí)可與 in the end換用;而 at last則語氣稍重，且往往帶有一定的感情色彩 。如：
Finally [in theend] he succeeded. 最后他成功了 。
He succeeded at last. 他終于成功了 。
in the end 可用來談?wù)搶淼氖拢渌鼉烧咭话悴贿@樣用。如：
In the end things will mend. 船到橋頭自然直。
I’m sureeverything will turn out all right in the end. 我相信最后一切都會(huì)好起來的。
