for the nonce 臨時
【講解】
最初在中世紀的英語中，有條成語for than ane先演變成for than anes,以后變成for the nonce,然后又變成for the nanes,那時意思是 for the one (thing, occasion)„ 最后才變成 目前的形式。但在中世紀的詩中，只作為押韻的疊句，沒有具體的意思;到十六世紀末才具有for the time being (“暫時”或“臨時”） 的意思。例如:You can use the little room as a studio for the nonce.(你可把這個小房間， 姑且當作工作室。）

A:你能借我一支鋼筆嗎？
B:Of course. Here you are.
B：當然可以。給你。
A:Thanks.

B:You see, this is a poor pen, but it will do for the nonce.
