第87課 英國的天氣
Everybody talks about the weather in England and this is not surprising.
在英國人人談?wù)撎鞖?這并不奇怪.
It changes from minute to minute,so it's always interesting.
氣候說變就變,所以總是有趣的話題.
Someone once wisely remarked that other countries have a climate,
有人曾巧妙地說其他國家有氣候,
but England just has weather!
可英國只有天氣.
Gretel was amused by all this talk at first,
起先格萊托對這種講法感到好笑,
but she has got used to it now.
而現(xiàn)在己習(xí)以為常了.

you can never be certain what's going to happen.
沒人能肯定天氣會發(fā)生什么變化.
Thought it was spring,there was a very heavy snowfall.
雖已是春天,卻又下了場大雪.
As usual,no one expected it.
和往常一樣,沒人預(yù)料到這點.
The pipes in many houses were frozen;
許多房子的水管凍了,
trains failed to run;cars got stuck;
火車開不了,汽車被堵在路上,
there were many accidents on the roads;
發(fā)生了多起交通事故.
lots of people slipped on the icy pavements and got hurt.
許多人在結(jié)了冰的人行道上滑倒受了傷.
The weather forecast was very bad.
天氣預(yù)報很不準(zhǔn).
Everyone complained gloomily,
大家都沮喪地抱怨道,
What awful weather we're having!
多糟糕的天氣!
Haven't seen anything like it!and so on.
從來沒遇到過這種事.
And then,suddenly,the sun came out,
可一會兒,太陽又突然露面了,
the snow melted and it was spring again.
雪化了,又是春天了.
Typical!Just typical!Gretel remarked.
典型的天氣!真是典型!格萊托評論道.
The way you talk about the weather,Gretel,Mr Clark said,
格萊托,看你談?wù)撎鞖獾臉幼?克拉克先生說.
anyone would think you were English!
