    who is involved
    why it was happy.
Summer is usually a busy time in the social calendar. The good weather means that many outdoor events are organised, such as music festivals, sports competitions and loads of weddings. I was lucky enough to attend a really happy occasion this summer, my best friend’s wedding.
The event took place in mid-August, possibly the hottest time of the year, in the Chinese province of Sichuan. As is popular these days, it was a mix of Chinese and Western traditions, with the bride changing into different dresses, one of each style, during the course of the day. The ceremony and reception both took place in a hotel in the city, but before that the groom had to travel out into the country to pick up the bride and carry her into the car.

There were around 200 people at the wedding, obviously many members of the two families and also friends. Since I am a very good friend of the groom, I was honoured to be the best man and it was my responsibility to help organise things and make sure everything went smoothly. I had to walk around each table with the two newlyweds and carry the wine while they toasted the guests.
Weddings should always be a happy time and this one was no different. They’re a chance to celebrate two people’s love, socialise and let your hair down. Sure, there were some tears, but they were tears of joy rather than sadness. I know my friend was nervous before wedding and maybe had cold feet, but once he had said, “I do” there was a look of relief on his face and he started to enjoy himself.
