    in advance 提前(同義習語一起記憶:before hand, ahead of time)
    例句:l.It's a really nice apartment. But the owners want two-month rent in advance and I just don't have it.

    2.If you want to borrow the family car or get your mother mend something for you, you will have better success if you possibly ask in advance.

    help oneself 自己動手
    A:Excuse me, would you mind if I used your phone?
    A:勞駕,我用一下你的電話你不介意吧!
    B:Help yourself, it's on the table over there.
    B:你自己來吧,電話就在那邊的桌子上。
    help oneself to 自己動手吃
    例句:1.We helped ourselves to the coffee.
    我們自己動手喝咖啡。
    2.George helped himself to another piece of apple pie.
    喬治自己又吃了一塊蘋果派。
    Somethings just can't be helped.有些事情是無法避免的。

    phone book 電話號碼簿(參見phone directory)
    例句:The phone book is over on the desk.

    A:I lost the piece of paper Laura gave me. You know, the one with her address on it.
    A:我把勞拉給我的那張紙給丟了,就是上面有她地址的那張紙。
    B:You might be able to find it listed in the phone book.

    get off the phone 別占著電話
    例句:Can you get off the phone? I have to make a call.

    put down 放下來
    A:I hope you like the novel lent you. I wasn't sure whether it was the kind of book you would be interested in.

    B:You know,I had the same doubt at first. But once I started I simply couldn't put it down.

    例句:Peter was given a medal for helping to put out the forest fire.

    9.stop vt./vi.停止,中斷,阻止;停留;塞住
    come to a stop 停下來
    例句:If nothing is done, the car will automatically come to a stop and in this way prevent an accident.
    如果沒有任何措施的話,汽車會自動停下來并且通過這種方式防止車禍發(fā)生。
