Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? To protect the health of young children, advertisement for candy and junk food should not be shown on television. Use specific reasons and details in your response.

I disagree that children will be protected by not showing junk food and candy on TV for two reasons. The first reason is that showing candy on TV doesn’t all of the sudden force someone to go out and buy candy. Children have the right to exercise their own self-control. When I was in school, I would buy candy occasionally only because it tasted good and gave me energy for my classes, but it was still my choice.
The second reason is that it’s not fair to prevent a company to advertise on TV just because it’s candy. What if a company made guns and tried to advertise their guns on TV by showing people killing each other with it? That would be harmful to society, but candy doesn’t kill anyone. At worst, it might give you acavity and that’s it.
That’s why I disagree that advertisements for candy should not be shown on TV.
