1. would rather表示一種心理愿望，意思為：寧愿。表示主語(yǔ)本人的愿望時(shí)，接動(dòng)詞原形;表示對(duì)他人的愿望、想法時(shí)，現(xiàn)在和將來(lái)的情況用過(guò)去時(shí)表示;過(guò)去的情況用過(guò)去完成時(shí)表示。如：
I’d rather do it by myself. 我寧愿獨(dú)自一人去做那件事。
I’d rather you came tomorrow. 我倒想要你明天來(lái)。
I’d rather you had finished it yesterday. 我倒想你昨天就做完了
2. would rather的否定形式為在rather后加not，但變疑問(wèn)句時(shí)，往往只將would提到句首。如：
I’d rather not tell you about it. 我倒想不告訴你為好。
Would you rather give the chance up? 你寧愿把機(jī)會(huì)放棄嗎?
3. would rather常與than連用，would rather…than…，意思是：寧愿…而不…。有時(shí)，也可寫成：than…，would rather…的形式，意義不變。如：
I’d rather die than give in. 我寧愿死，也不會(huì)屈服。
Than steal, I’d rather die of hunger, 我寧愿餓死，也不會(huì)去偷。
在這一結(jié)構(gòu)中，than后面與前面相同的部分場(chǎng)被省略，只保留不同的部分。如：
