Nowadays, with the rapid development of the modern society, is seems that more and more people desire a rather luxurious than wealthy life, and some even consider it shameful to be thrifty. There are two different opinions about this phenomenon. One is that being thrift is a good virtue and should be taken seriously. The other is that ways of living are people’s personal choices, and should not be bother by anyone else. As far as I am concerned, I cannot positive more with the former for various reasons.
First of all, living a wealthy life does not mean not being able to be thrift. It is not difficult for anyone to economize his or her materials while enjoying the delight and convenience they are bringing. For example, it sounds wonderful to have a villa with many colorful lights, but the lights need not to be kept on during day time. It sounds comfortable to take a bath in a large bathtub, but there’s no need to keep the tap on all the time. In these ways people can certainly enjoy their lives inexpensively.
Moreover, the natural resources are limited and are on a decline. If people just keep wasting resources, our later generations will have little to use. Meanwhile, although science and technology have enhance a lot, there’s still not a perfect way to mass produce products without polluting the environment or releasing a lot of greenhouse gases. If people keep the wasting, the humanity will literally face extinction.
Last but not least, being thrift is a good virtue which has been passed from generation to generation. History has also proved that those who are thrift have much more blessings than those who are extravagant. So it is important to educate people that it’s good to have a dream, but it’s harmful to have a sumptuous and wasteful one.
To sum up, as an old saying goes, thrift is not only a great virtue, but also a great revenue. If more people become thrifty and less conceited, the world will undoubtedly become a much better one.
