The past several years have witnessed a drastic increase in the number of Chinese students who choose to study abroad．As is illustrated by the column chart,the number ofstudents studying overseas has more than doubled from 2008 to 2013，climbing from
180，000 to around 410，000．
There are a variety of reasons for studying overseas．First，students can enrich their knowledge and enlarge their horizons by being exposed to entirely new ideas and cultures．Second,an overseas living experience allows a real-life use of a foreign language，so it can improve the efficiency in acquiring second-language skills．Last but not least,many people hold the idea that all overseas diploma from top universities in the world Can provide more competitive advantages for their future careers than a diploma obtained at home．
Generally speaking，studying abroad is valuable in one’s personal development． However，people should also be aware that it may not necessarily pay off due to the high financial COSffi and the potential challenges of adapting to a new culture．
