1．free與single
（1）free可以表示“免費(fèi)的”、“無償?shù)摹保?BR> The girl ‘gave’ her mother a free dress once a week!
那姑娘每星期“送”她母親一件免費(fèi)的衣服！
She has got some free tickets to the comedy show.
她有這場喜劇表演的一些免費(fèi)入場券。
free還可以表示“自由的”、“沒束縛的”、“不受控制的”、“空閑的”等含義：
You are free to make your own decision.
你有權(quán)作出自己的決定。
I'm free on Friday evening.
我星期五晚上有空。
（2）single可以指人“單身的”、“獨(dú)身的”、“未婚的”：
I enjoy being single.
我喜歡獨(dú)身生活。
Are you married or single?
你結(jié)婚了還是單身？
There are more and more single women in modern cities.
現(xiàn)代城市里單身女人越來越多了。
a single parent 單親（獨(dú)自一人養(yǎng)育兒女的父親或母親）
2．queue與row
（1）queue可以作不及物動詞，表示“排隊(duì)”：
We had to queue for hours to get in.
我們不得不排了好幾個(gè)小時(shí)隊(duì)才進(jìn)了場內(nèi)。
She has to queue for the bus every morning.
她每天早上都得排隊(duì)等公共汽車。（通常與for連用）
queue也可以作名詞，表示按順序等待的人、車等的“行列”、“隊(duì)”：
There's a long queue/line of people waiting for the bus.
人們排著長隊(duì)等公共汽車。
We'd better join the queue for tickets.
我們好加入買票的隊(duì)伍。
（2）row可以指人或物的“一排”、“一行”，通常為橫的（queue通常為縱隊(duì)）：
You can see me in this old photo, standing in the back row.
你可以在這張老照片中找到我，我當(dāng)時(shí)站在后排。
Please put the desks in four rows.
請把課桌擺成4排。
3．funny adj.
（1）funny通常表示“有趣的”、“滑稽的”、“逗人發(fā)笑的”，與amusing同義：
I don't find Jim's jokes very funny.
我并不覺得吉姆的笑話很有趣。
He included a large number of funny stories in his speech.
他在演講詞里面加進(jìn)了大量逗人的故事。
（2）在口語中，funny也可以表示“反常的”、“古怪的”、“奇怪的”等含義：
I thought there was something funny about the parcel, so I phoned the police.
我覺得那個(gè)包裹有點(diǎn)古怪，所以就給警察打了電話。
This morning I saw her wearing a funny hat which looked like a lighthouse.
今天上午我看見她戴了一頂滑稽的、看上去像個(gè)燈塔的帽子。
