1．support vt．
（1）支持，支撐（某個具體東西）：
The actual figure was supported by a metal framework.
這座雕像的主體由金屬框架支撐著。
Feeling weak, she supported herself against a desk and rested for a short time.
她覺得有點虛弱，便靠著一張書桌休息了一小會兒。
（2）擁護，贊成，支持（人、想法等）：
He made the right decision. Unfortunately, nobody supported him.
他的決定是正確的。不幸的是，沒有人支持他。
I supported his opinion that another bridge should be built over the river.
我贊成他的觀點，即這條河上應(yīng)該再建一座橋。
（3）撫養(yǎng)，供養(yǎng)，贍養(yǎng)：
You need a high income these days to support a large family.
現(xiàn)在，要有高收入才能養(yǎng)活一個大家庭。
My son can support himself now.
我兒子現(xiàn)在能養(yǎng)活自己了。
2．同形不同音的詞
許多詞既可以作名詞又可以作動詞但有些詞作為不同的詞類使用時發(fā)音上，尤其是重音的位置會有變化：
We will send a present to our former headmaster.
我們將送一份禮物給我們以前的校長。
The Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States of America in the nineteenth century by the people of France.
自由女神雕像是在19世紀(jì)時由法國人民贈送給美國的。
前一句中，present 是名詞，重音在第1個音節(jié)上；后一句中，present 是動詞，重音在第2個音節(jié)上。
