A senior administration official says the White House is considering ending its surveillance on friendly foreign leaders. Members of Congress expressed concern during a hearing Tuesday that NSA programs under Obama administration may have gone too far.
Police in Brazil said they have detained around 90 people in Sao Paulo after violent demonstrations over the police killing of a 17-year-old. At least 5 commuter buses and 3 trucks were torched late Monday. Police say the shooting of the youth who was in custody was accidental.
The mother of Trayvon Martin told a Senate Panel that Stand Your Ground laws don’t work and must be amended during a hearing on the politically-charged issue. Republicans led by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas said the matter should left up to the states who passed the laws.
And several babies born the night super storm Sandy celebrated their first birthday with hospital staff on Tuesday. The storm’s anniversary was marked by tributes along the east coast.
