Lessons(課文)
Try using all of the fun body idioms when you write a short of your own about you or your friend.
Below is an example.
As with all idioms you won't find any of these meanings in a dictionary, but these are the real meanings of common spoken English idioms. We hope you can use more idioms to help you speak more fluent English.
在進(jìn)行描述你自己或朋友的寫作時(shí),不妨試著使用一些有趣的身體習(xí)慣用語。
以下是一則例子。
雖然在字典里你可能找不到這些身體習(xí)慣用語的解釋,但是在日常的英語會(huì)話里,這些卻很常見。我們希望借助這些身體習(xí)慣用語,你可以說更流利的英語。
Example story (故事舉例):
Molly the babe has a green thumb but two left feet. Long ago she lived in the city, but she felt there was not enough elbow room, so she moved to the countryside. There she met Jack who caught her eye. However, Jack was often up to his neck in work so he had no time to buy gifts for Molly. Jack also liked to get a five finger discount at the store, he hated spending money. Molly, on the other hand was heads above the rest when came to being honest. She had a big mouth and told every one that Jack liked to get a five finger discount. Molly soon got Jack to go back and pay for the stolen merchandise. The manager who put his nose into their business, named Gordon, said, "two thumbs up, I am heads over heels in love with you and your honesty." So it was that Molly said goodbye to Jack and hello to Gordon.
Now you try a short story using your friends as the characters!
現(xiàn)在你可以試著寫一個(gè)短故事,以你的朋友作為故事的主角。
Dialogue(對(duì)話)
Gordon: I give my new girlfriend two thumbs up. Are you jealous?
Molly: You wish, in your dreams. I give my new hunk four thumbs up.
Gordon: You can't give four thumbs up, you only have two thumbs!
Molly: I have two thumbs on my feet! Ha!
Gordon: Those are called big toes, not foot thumbs. Some times your are silly.(250)
Molly: Not as silly as some English idioms. For example, head over heels in love. What does that mean anyway?
Gordon: It means you are so much in love you fall down and can't control yourself. Are you head over heels in love with your new boyfriend?
Molly: It is a secret. If I told you, he would say I have a big mouth.
Gordon: Can you at least tell me if he has two left feet?
Molly: He does not have two left feet, in fact he dances like the Latin hunk, Ricky Martin.
Gordon: Where is he from, Mars?
Molly: No, jealous boy, he is from the countryside where there is a lot of elbow room. Not like us in the big city, we have no elbowroom.
Gordon: You can say that again. There are too many people here. Every time I try to get a five-finger discount at the store, someone sees me.
Molly: You are a bad boy.
Gordon: Don't beautiful girls all like bad boys?
Molly: Of course, but we don't tell anyone about it.
Gordon: Ha, you told me the secret, you do have a big mouth.
Molly: You are going to have a big face, after I beat you!
比如說,head over heels in love。
Gordon: How's it going?
Molly: Great. I am on a natural high.
