A. 1. neither意為“既不是甲，也不是乙”，“兩者都不……”，后面跟單數(shù)動(dòng)詞的肯定式。它可以單獨(dú)使用，后面也可跟名詞或of
+the/these/those/所有格代詞或人稱代詞：
（a）I tried both keys but neither（of them）worked．
兩把鑰匙我都試了，但（兩把）都不行。
（b）Neither of them knew the way/Neither boy knew…
他們倆/兩個(gè)男孩都不認(rèn)得路。
（c） I’ve read neither of these（books）．
這兩本（書）我都沒看過。
2 either意為“兩者之一”，“兩者中任何一個(gè)”。它后面跟動(dòng)詞單數(shù)形式。同neither一樣，它可以單獨(dú)使用，或跟名詞/代詞及of+the/these/those等連用。
3 either+否定動(dòng)詞可代替neither+肯定動(dòng)詞，但neither是主語時(shí)除外。所以either不能用于上面Al例句（a）或（b）中，只能用于例句（c）中：
I haven’t read either of these（books）．
這兩本（書）我都沒看過。
雖然either不能作否定句的主語，但它可作肯定句或疑問句的主語或賓語：
Either（of these）would do．
這兩個(gè)中任一個(gè)都可以。
Would you like either of these？
你喜歡二者中的任一個(gè)嗎？
4 代詞和所有格形容詞與代表人的neither/either連用時(shí)，從語法上說應(yīng)當(dāng)用he/him，she/her及his/her，但是在英語的口語中用復(fù)數(shù)形式較為普遍：
Neither of them knows the way，do they？
他們倆都不知道路，是嗎？
Neither of them had brought their passports．
他們倆都沒帶護(hù)照。
B neither…nor，either… or
neither… nor+肯定動(dòng)詞是把兩個(gè)否定說法結(jié)合在一起的強(qiáng)
調(diào)方式：
（a）Neither threats nor arguments had any affect on him．
無論是恐嚇還是講道理對(duì)他都不起作用。
（b）They said the room was large and bright but it was neither large norbright．
他們說這間房子又大又明亮，可它既不大也不明亮。
（c）He neither wrote nor phoned．
他既沒寫信又沒打電話。
either…or+否定動(dòng)詞可代替neither…nor+肯定動(dòng)詞結(jié)構(gòu)，
但neither…nor作動(dòng)詞主語時(shí)除外，如上述例句（a）。所以可
以說：
（b）…but it wasn’t either large or bright．
（c）He didn’t either write or phone．
either…or不能作否定句的主語，但可作肯定句和疑問句的主
語或賓語。這種用法是表示強(qiáng)調(diào)二者之中任何一個(gè)皆可以：
You can have either soup or fruit juice．
湯和果汁你任意喝哪一種都行。
You must either go at once or wait till tomorrow．
你要么馬上走，要么等到明天。
It’s urgent，so could you either phone or telex？
這事非常緊急，所以你或是打電話或是用電傳，好嗎？
