1921年盛夏的一個晚上，上海法租界望志路106號一幢磚木結(jié)構(gòu)的兩層小樓里，透出明亮的燈光，一張長方桌周圍13位代表在開會。他們代表著全國50多名黨員，成就了中國歷開天辟地的大事件：召開第一次全國代表大會，正式宣告中國共產(chǎn)黨成立。這一天是7月23日。
中國共產(chǎn)黨在歷經(jīng)腥風血雨和種種艱難險阻后，在黃土高原落下了腳。當中華民族處在最危急的時刻，是黨高擎抗日大旗，凝聚起愛國力量，浴血奮戰(zhàn)，救亡圖存，成為抵御外侮的中流砥柱。中國共產(chǎn)黨在全國人民中的影響日益深入人心，紀念黨的誕辰成為黨員和人民群眾的愿望。當時在延安，參加過黨的一大會議的只有毛澤東和董必武兩人，由于時隔多年，檔案難尋，黨的一大開幕日期一時無法確認。于是他們就把7月的第一天作為黨誕生的紀念日。1941年6月，黨中央發(fā)出了《關(guān)于中國共產(chǎn)黨誕生二十周年、抗戰(zhàn)四周年紀念指示》，正式把7月1日確定為黨的誕生紀念日。盡管后來考證出黨的一大是在7月23日開幕的，但仍然以7月1日作為中國共產(chǎn)黨的誕生紀念日。
