由外研社出版的《新概念》英語系列叢書是一套成功的英語教材，暢銷了幾十年，對我國學生學習英語提供了很大的幫助，現(xiàn)有兩處疑問（2冊書中）拿出來與讀者進行討論。
疑問一：
Lsson 28中的“ Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths.（賈斯珀·懷特是少有的相信古代神話的人之一。）（P.134），且該課文注釋1又解釋到：“ one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths,少有的相信古代神話的人之一。其中who believes in ancient myths 一個從句，起定語作用，修飾one；由于one是單數(shù)，因此，從句中需要用單數(shù)動詞。of those rare people是另一個定語，也用來修飾one?！钡芏嗖牧仙险f“當定語從句的先行詞前有one of 修飾時，那么，定語從句中的謂語動詞要用復數(shù)形式，且有很多考題以此為背景而設置。例如：
That is one of those books that ____ worth reading.
A.is B.are C.has D.have
B項為所附的正確答案。那么，《新概念》英語2冊中的那句話中的believes是否要改為believe才是正確的呢？
【答】實際上，《新概念》英語2冊中的句子并不是錯誤的，請看下面的證據(jù)：
1.但實際應用中多與one 一致。如：（2）She’s one of those women who doesn’t know a thing about furniture.（她是絲毫不懂家具的那些婦女之一。）⑶Singing is one of the activities which graduates the greatest enthusiasm.（唱歌是會激起大熱情的活動之一。）[《薄冰英語語法》（P.564），開明出版社]
2.“ one +of +復形名詞”結構后的定語從句中的謂語動詞一般應根據(jù)實際情況與one或與of 后的復形名詞一致，如：⑴This is one of the best books that have appeared.這是所出版的好的書籍之一。（have與books 一致。但實際上卻有許多人會在上面的例句中用單數(shù)形式has appeared ，因為他們心目中總是想著數(shù)詞one。這樣的例子很多，下面在舉二三列：……⑶Really good talk is one of the greatest pleasures there is.真正好的談話是大的樂趣之一。下面一句中定語從句的單形動詞有歧義：⑷This is one of the doors that was damaged.(這句話中定語從句的was可能與doors一致，也可能與one一致。如屬前者，全句的意思是“這是被損壞的門中的一扇”；如屬后者，全句則意為“這是許多門中被損壞的一個”。)[《薄冰高級英語語法》（P.595），世界知識出版社]
3.She’s one of the few women who has climbed Everest.（她是幾位登上埃佛勒斯峰的婦女之一），動詞have為復數(shù)，因為主語（who）指的是復數(shù)（the few women）。但是，這個句子也包含著She has climbed Everest.這樣一句話，而在非正式文體里，許多人會因此而說She’s one of the few women who has climbed Everest.嚴格地說，這是不正確的（關系從句中的動詞應與關系從句的主語一致，而不應與主句的主語一致），但在非正式英語中，這種結構很普遍。One of the things that really make/makes me angry is people who don’t answer her.（有一件事使我真生氣，那就是人們不答復信件。） Alice was one of the students that were /was late for the lecture.(聽講座有學生遲到，艾麗斯就是其中之一。)[《英語用法指南》（第二版）（P.729），外研社]
4.但語言實際與語法規(guī)則并不總是完全一致。從語言實際來看，與上述規(guī)則相反的情況確是為數(shù)不少，從句用單數(shù)動詞、主語中用復形名詞作先行詞的現(xiàn)象屢見不鮮。也就是說，這是英美人常犯的錯誤。但這似乎有點積重難返了。據(jù)有人統(tǒng)計，違反這條傳統(tǒng)規(guī)則的人與尊重這條傳統(tǒng)語法規(guī)則的人的比例約為2:1， 有的人甚至說是5:1。有的語法學家還為違反這條語法規(guī)則的現(xiàn)象找出了原因，即定語從句之所以用單形動詞是受到了主句中one的影響的緣故。有人認為這種不符合語法的情況多出現(xiàn)在美國英語和口語中。例如：Washington is one of the few states that has such a reforestation requirement on its statute book. 5.然而，在非正式語體中，這條規(guī)則并不是嚴格地地遵守，在 “one of +復數(shù)名詞+who/that/which 引導的關系分句”中，分句謂語動詞采取單數(shù)形式的情況并非少見。例如：The Cutty Sark was one of the fastest sailing ships that has ever been built. [《新概念》英語3冊 Lesson 25]
6．如果在one of +復數(shù)名詞構成的名詞短語的后面跟有一定語從句的話，則定語從句中的動詞的數(shù)是應該跟one相一致，還是應該跟復數(shù)名詞相一致，就往往存在著一個進行選擇的問題：選擇動詞的單數(shù)形式還是選擇動詞的復數(shù)形式，取決于我們的著眼點是事物的普遍性還是事物的特殊性。請比較：1.Charlatanry is one of the many words in English that are of French origin.（Charlatanry 是眾多源于法語的英語單詞之一。）2.My worthy friend Sir Roger is one of those who is not only at peace within himself,but beloved and esteemed by all about him.（我信賴的朋友勞格先生不僅是一個內(nèi)心平和的人，而且也是一受周圍人愛戴和尊重的人。）[《英語常見問題解答大詞典》（P.1005），世界圖書出版公司]
7．關于這一點可以從Shaik和Farhady所調(diào)查的操英語的本族人的實例中得到充分肯定：Jack is one of those rare individuals who(have—16﹪；has—84﹪)decided on a definite career.( Farhady,1977)
He is one of the best students that(have—14﹪；has—86﹪)ever come to this school.
事實上，這種與傳統(tǒng)語法相矛盾的情況，在Van Shaik和Farhady調(diào)查所使用的五例當中，只有一例比上述兩例略為緩和：
I am one of those who(favor—35﹪；favors—65﹪)equal rights.
不過，即使在上面這個例子中（I作主語和those用做代詞看來都是一些緩和因素）,違反傳統(tǒng)規(guī)則的比例仍然幾乎是2比1。顯然，多數(shù)操英語的本族人用one作為who或that的先行詞。因此，為了更準確地反映實際的用法，似乎應當修改這條傳統(tǒng)規(guī)則。[《英語句子詞典》（P.953）,四川辭書出版社]
由此可見，上述句子無誤。believes 也是正確的。
注：1.我們?nèi)粘ｉ喿x中使用兩種情況都是正確的。但在我國目前各種測試中習慣上使用復數(shù)形式。
2.但當one of …結構前有the (only/very),any ,just the 等修飾時，那么定語從句中謂語動詞要使用復數(shù)形式。例如：
①Is there any one of you who wants to go with me?
②The boy sitting by the window is the only one of the students who is from the countryside in our school.
③Jack is ____ who knows how to work out the problem.
A.one of the boys B.the only one of the boywww.Examw.com
C.one of the boy D.the only one of the boys
D項為所附的正確答案。（若不在我國目前考試要求的背景下，選項也是A可以接受的）。
疑問一：
