blind（失明的），deaf（聾的），disabled（殘廢的），healthy（健康的）/sick（病弱的）， living（活的）/dead（死的）， rich（富有的）/poor（貧窮的），unemployed（失業(yè)的）以及其他某些說(shuō)明人的性格或狀態(tài)的形容詞，前面加the時(shí)可以代表一類人。這一表達(dá)方式具有復(fù)數(shù)含義，所以動(dòng)詞也用復(fù)數(shù)形式，代詞則用they：
The poor get poorer；the rich get richer．
窮者愈窮；富者愈富。
the+表示國(guó)籍的以ch或sh結(jié)尾的形容詞也是同樣用法：
the Dutch荷蘭人 the Spanish西班牙人
the Welsh威爾士人
以se或ss結(jié)尾的表示國(guó)籍的形容詞也可以這樣用：
the Burmese緬甸人
the Chinese中國(guó)人
