考研沖刺階段每日規(guī)范的英語(yǔ)句子練習(xí)(二)

2012考研進(jìn)入沖刺階段,提高復(fù)習(xí)效率很重要,考研英語(yǔ)復(fù)習(xí)方面每天要用規(guī)范的英語(yǔ)句子練習(xí)。句子冗長(zhǎng)是考生在寫(xiě)作時(shí)最容易出現(xiàn)的毛病。有的考生錯(cuò)誤地認(rèn)為,句子越長(zhǎng),就越顯示出自己的英語(yǔ)水平高超。這是造成句子冗長(zhǎng)的原因之一。另一個(gè)原因是受漢語(yǔ)的影響,有的考生在造句時(shí),頭腦中首先出現(xiàn)的是漢語(yǔ)句子,然后再翻譯成英語(yǔ),這不可避免地形成了漢語(yǔ)式的贅述。
    明確了以上兩個(gè)原因之后,考生應(yīng)時(shí)刻力求句子的簡(jiǎn)練和表達(dá)的清晰,刪除多余無(wú)關(guān)的詞語(yǔ),有意識(shí)地克服一味追求長(zhǎng)句的弊病,學(xué)會(huì)靈活變換句式。同時(shí)還應(yīng)當(dāng)克服漢語(yǔ)的影響,不要用硬譯的方法來(lái)組合語(yǔ)句,逐漸養(yǎng)成用英語(yǔ)進(jìn)行思維的習(xí)慣。
    誤:In my opinion, I think the picture is very meaningful.(這里的In my opinion和I think是同義的,是不必要的重復(fù)。)
    正:In my opinion, the picture is very meaningful. 或者I think the picture is very meaningful.
    誤:The distant explosion was audible to the ear. (audible意為“可聽(tīng)見(jiàn)的,聽(tīng)得見(jiàn)的”,to the ear是多余的詞語(yǔ),應(yīng)該刪掉。)
    誤:There are four companies in Shanghai, and any of them can supply us with spare parts. (此句可簡(jiǎn)化成 Any of the four companies in Shanghai can supply spare parts.)
    另:The bottle that are placed on the shelf contain some chemicals that have been newly discovered. 此句可簡(jiǎn)化為:The bottle on the shelf contain some new chemicals.
    Mr. Li, who is my favorite professor, has received a Distinguished Teacher Award. 此句可簡(jiǎn)化為:Mr. Li, my favorite professor, has received a Distinguished Teacher Award.
    另外,漢語(yǔ)表達(dá)習(xí)慣也是造成表達(dá)臃腫的原因。比如,在漢語(yǔ)中,我們常說(shuō):“壓倒多數(shù)”、“適當(dāng)調(diào)整”、“基本完成”、“堅(jiān)決禁止” 、“加快改革的步伐”等,但如果用下列英語(yǔ)表達(dá)這些概念就顯得多余了:“overwhelming majority”、“appropriate readjustment”、“basically accomplish”、“firmly forbid”、“accelerate the pace of reform”?!癿ajority”指的肯定是絕大多數(shù);“readjustment”肯定要適當(dāng);“基本完成”中的“基本”是漢語(yǔ)中的謙辭;“forbid”本身就包含堅(jiān)決禁止的含義;“accelerate the pace of reform”中的pace多余,可以簡(jiǎn)化成“accelerate the reform”。
    類似的贅述還有以下表達(dá),其實(shí),用箭頭后面的表達(dá)更為簡(jiǎn)潔:
