Reach the age of 90 and your body won’t get any older, but in order to get to that moment, you should adopt a proper diet from the age of around 30, claimed an American scientist last night。
Michael Rose, a professor of evolutionary biology, suggests adopting a “Stone Age” diet from the age of around 30. Grains and dairy products should be avoided and seafood, fruits, nuts and vegetables embraced。
Professor Rose’s advice is based on the observation that, in general, we do not get sicker and sicker as we get older and older. Instead, population statistics show that ageing seems to stop at 93 and does not speed up again until we get a telegram from the Queen. If you make it to 99, you are no more likely to die at any given point than someone of 93.
The professor says the answer could lie in our genes having adapted to do different things at different ages. The older we get, the more chance there is that these adaptations will clash, causing ill health. But, getting old enough and you reach a stage at which your genes are no longer affected by such demands. This means the body does not face any new problems beyond those already present at 90.
Professor Rose says that those wanting to fast-forward to this "coasting" stage should look to their diet。
He says that when we are young, our bodies are probably better able to cope with modern diets. But as we age, we would be better suited to a caveman diet。
Professor Rose's finding was written in this week’s New Scientist
