常州工學(xué)院坐落于經(jīng)­濟(jì)發(fā)達(dá)、文教昌盛、交通便捷、美麗富饒的江南歷史名城常州,學(xué)校創(chuàng)建于1978年,是一所擁有工、文、理、經(jīng)­濟(jì)、管理、教育等學(xué)科門類、辦學(xué)特點(diǎn)鮮明的應(yīng)用型本科高校。
     學(xué)?,F(xiàn)有15個二級學(xué)院和直屬學(xué)部,設(shè)有32個本科專業(yè),并與國外院校聯(lián)合開辦15個專業(yè)的教育合作項(xiàng)目。現(xiàn)有全日制學(xué)生近14000人,教職工1100余人。
     學(xué)校占地1000余畝,校舍建筑總面積30余萬平方米。校園環(huán)境優(yōu)雅宜人,充滿人文氣息。學(xué)校是江蘇省文明單位、江蘇省高?;▓@式校園、全國單位造林綠化400佳之一。
     學(xué)校始終堅(jiān)持面向基層、服務(wù)地方和培養(yǎng)高素質(zhì)的具有創(chuàng)新精神和實(shí)踐能力的應(yīng)用型本科人才的定位,注重用先進(jìn)的教育理念指導(dǎo)辦學(xué)實(shí)踐,緊密結(jié)合省、市經(jīng)濟(jì)結(jié)構(gòu)、產(chǎn)業(yè)結(jié)構(gòu)和技術(shù)結(jié)構(gòu)發(fā)展的特點(diǎn)、要求,進(jìn)行學(xué)科、專業(yè)建設(shè),不斷深化教育改革,創(chuàng)新人才培養(yǎng)體系,大膽探索和實(shí)踐體現(xiàn)“零距離”特征的應(yīng)用型人才培養(yǎng)模式,走產(chǎn)、學(xué)、研結(jié)合培養(yǎng)應(yīng)用型人才的新途徑,著力提高學(xué)生的專業(yè)核心能力和就業(yè)競爭力。現(xiàn)已為社會輸送了八萬余名本??茟?yīng)用型技術(shù)人才和管理人才,教學(xué)質(zhì)量贏得社會各界廣泛好評。2006年12月,學(xué)校在全省新建本科院校中率先以優(yōu)良的成績通過了教育部本科教學(xué)工作水平評估。
     學(xué)校積極開展應(yīng)用技術(shù)研究和開發(fā),產(chǎn)學(xué)研與對外技術(shù)服務(wù)取得較大成績,有百余項(xiàng)科研成果獲國家、省、市獎勵。同時,學(xué)校堅(jiān)持以科研促教學(xué),建有光機(jī)電一體化、模具、數(shù)控、動畫、軟件開發(fā)和設(shè)計等十多個以優(yōu)勢學(xué)科為依托的校級科研機(jī)構(gòu),創(chuàng)建了集研發(fā)、生產(chǎn)、學(xué)生實(shí)踐于一體的科技產(chǎn)業(yè)園。
     Changzhou Institute of Technology (herein referred to as CIT) is located in Changzhou, a well-known, rich and beautiful city on the southern bank of Yangtze River, which enjoys a developed economy, a prosperous education and culture as well as convenient transportation. Founded in April, 1978, CIT has now become a practice-oriented institution of higher learning with distinctive characteristics, offering 4-year academic programs in such fields as engineering, liberal arts, science, economics, management, education, etc. There are 15 schools in CIT, offering 32 4-year undergraduate programs. At the same time, CIT actively involves itself in international education exchange and cooperation, and has run 15 co-operation programs with its overseas partners. There are around 14000 three-year and four-year full-time students and more than 1100 staff members.
     CIT boasts a total area of more than 66.7 hectares and a total floor space of over 300000 square meters. Up-to-date facilities create a healthy learning environment, allowing students to participate in sci-tech research, sports and other activities on campus. CIT has been awarded a number of honorary titles such as “Civilized Unit of Jiangsu Province”, “Garden Campus of Jiangsu Province” and “Top 400 in Afforestation of the State”.
     With a direct focus on local development, CIT spares no effort to cultivate fine and high-quality practice-oriented talents with innovative ideas and pragmatic competence. In light of the new requirement and new characteristics seen in the restructuring of economy, industry and technology in the city, CIT continues to take an initiative to deepen its educational reform and innovate the cultivation modes and system. CIT is committed to blazing a new trail for training practice-oriented personnel at “zero distance” by integrating production with learning and research in order to build up the core competitiveness for students of different specialties. Up to date, CIT has turned out over 80000 three-and-four-year practice-oriented graduates for different social sectors. Its graduates have been enjoying great popularity for their high quality attributed to the excellent teaching work. In 2006, as the first one among the newly-established four-year colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province to receive the accreditation and assessment for the undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education of the State, CIT got a very good score.
     CIT attaches great importance to applied sci-tech research and development, and has made remarkable achievements in integrating production with learning and research and in providing technical services to the community. More than 100 achievements in sci-tech research have won municipal, provincial and state awards. Meanwhile, with CIT’s persistence in promoting teaching quality through scientific research, a dozen or so scientific research centers have been set up based on the advantageous disciplines. They are the center of Optics, Machinery and Electronics, the center of Moulds and Dies, the center of Numerical Control, the center of Animation, the center of Software Design and Development. In addition, a sci-tech park has been established for research, production and student’s practice. Some school-run enterprises, technically supported by CIT’s key specialties, such as photo-electromechanical control, molding, numerically-controlled technology, industrial design, software development and design etc. have served as good training bases to cultivate practice-oriented talents.
