The issue of is an internal affair of China which should not influence the development of Sino-British relations. As for the Dalai Lama’s remarks that he did not want to achieve independence of , but high level autonomy, this is not the first time he has made this proposal. This is merely the first step toward restoration of his rule over prior to achieving independence. Facts have proved that Dalai Lama has never given up his attempt to gain independence for . He is continuously carrying out such activities in the international arena. We hope he can give up his position and stop his activities to split the motherland, and recognize the government of the People‘s Republic of China as the only legal government representing the whole of China. Only under such circumstances can negotiations be conducted.
