Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, was computer-calculated to a million decimal places in 1973 by the French mathematicians Jean Guilloud and Martine Bouyer. The value was published as a 400-page book——very important, and yet surely one of the most boring books in the world.
