Beijing Opens First Self-service Job Center

The first self-service job center in China has been set up in the Taoranting community in the Xuanwu district of Beijing, the Beijing-based Star Daily newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Also known as a “community job bar”, the center provides information on more than 600 vacant positions to job-hunters.
Ms. Liu is one of the many people who have benefited from the services. After 15 minutes, she found interview announcements for two positions. She printed notices out and attended the interviews.
Two days later, she had a job. She says the center is better than going to a job fair, which are time-consuming and often achieve little.
A Labour and Social Security Bureau official in the Xuanwu district said the community center has twenty computers connected to the district job centre via the internet.
The positions advertised at the center are suitable for graduates of the three-year college program, technical secondary school students, older middle school students, laid-off workers and low-income people.
Job hunters can browse through the vacancies at their leisure once they have registered as a member.
Local residents have praised the job center as a convenient source of employment information.
