Israel's New Coalition to Take Tough Line on Peace
    以色列新聯(lián)合政府將在和平問題上采取強硬立場
    ★coalition, “a union of separate political parties for a special purpose, usually for a limited period of time.” 聯(lián)盟,聯(lián)合:Government by coalition has its own peculiar set of problems. 通過聯(lián)盟組成的政府有其特有的問題。 Take tough line on sb/sth, 對某人/某事物采取強硬態(tài)度。也可以說成 take a tough line/stance on, 或 get tough with, 如:The government is continuing to take a tough stance/line on terrorism. 政府繼續(xù)以強硬手段對付恐怖活動。 Tough 在這里的意思是“showing strong determination, uncompromising 強硬的,不妥協(xié)的”。
    JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's hawkish coalition is likely to pursue a tough line on the Palestinian revolt and peace-making after parliament gave the new government a stamp of approval on Friday.
