大概都知道，英文里有許多單詞可以有好幾種解釋，有時使得學英語的人感到很糊涂，到底這個詞是什么意思。就拿 odd 這個詞來說吧，僅僅只有三個字母，可是卻有好幾個意思。它可以形容某個很奇怪的人或者行為，也可以指一、三、五這樣的單數(shù)，它還可以解釋為“多一點”，如： fifty-odd men，意思是“五十幾個人”。Odd 這個詞還可以和別的詞合在一起用，當然和不同的詞合在一起它的意思也就不同。例如：Oddball。要是你說某人是個 oddball，那就是說這個人表現(xiàn)的很奇怪，和一般人不一樣。我們來舉個例子吧：
My friend Joe is certainly an oddball. In the summer he puts his shoes in the refrigerator at night so his feet will be cool when he goes to work in the morning.
我的朋友喬真怪。在夏天，他晚上把鞋子放在冰箱里，說是第二天上班去的時候，腳可以涼快一點。
