適合初級(jí)讀者的英文可愛小說--小狗PIZZA的故事Part 3

字號(hào):

But like I said earlier on, that is a different story altogether.
Pizza was off again chasing after something, dogs only knows what. She wasn’ t into this silly talking business of us humans.
We followed after Pizza at easier pace. There wasn't any real danger of losing her.
We walked what seemed for hours; not one of us had a watch. The path we were taking followed a stream that meandered between small grassy knolls on its way to the sea.
Every so often Gideon threw a stick into the stream, and Pizza dove barking into the water to retrieve it.
A long time had passed since last we saw sight of the town; we were in the heart of the countryside. It was a lovely day. It was hot and getting hotter, and when thirsty, we simply cupped our hands and drank the water we'd scooped up from the stream.
We knew the area fairly well, so there was no danger of getting lost. We decided, that we'd return back home, when the sun was halfway down, on it's descent towards the horizon.
“ OK, everyone, we’ re having a break,” Tommy called out; we'd become quite spread out. “ Ron, Gideon, come join me here under this tree; it's a lot cooler here in the shade.”
Tommy and I laid our weary selves down and I closed my eyes (just for a short while, I said to myself). Even Pizza, she lay herself down on her back alongside us. Only Gideon, didn't want to rest, he sat on the stream bank with his bare feet dangling in the cool water.
“ Come on, Ron, time to start back.”
Tommy and I awoke, when Gideon plunked himself down beside us, he was putting his shoes back on. Stretching a little I looked up at the sky; it was time to return home. At a leisurely pace we started to make our way back home.
Like before, every so often Gideon threw a stick for Pizza to chase, only this time he threw it up the hillside; he didn't want her get back home wet.
Like a crazy thing, she ran after the stick. On the third time he threw it, Pizza the dog didn’ t come back. She'd disappeared from sight.
“ Pizza, Pizza! Where are you? Dad, Pizza's gone! She hasn’ t come back!”
“ Don’ t worry, Giddy. She’ ll come back soon. Maybe she's found something of interest.”
Suddenly, we heard Pizza whimpering from inside a bush about halfway up the hill.
We went to help her, and found the poor dog caught up in a blackberry bush; she couldn’ t move at all, the branches and thorns held her firm.
Tommy, who always carried a penknife in his pocket, cut her free. Immediately, she was off again like a rocket, whizzing around to the other side of the bush. Again she disappeared. We, on her release, immediately fell to gorging ourselves on delicious blackberries. The blackberry vine was full of the black and ripe fruit. Soon our fingers were black with juice, and our clothes full of thorns; we were having great time.
“ Hey Pizza, let go!” Gideon complained. “ Stop pulling me. Pizza, stop it now! You’ re gonna tear my trousers. Dad! Tell Pizza to stop. I don’ t know what’ s gotten into her. She won’ t let go of my trouser leg.”
“ Maybe she's trying to show or tell you something,” I said. “ Go see what does she want. Maybe she's discovered something important. Go on Gideon, go and see what it is she wants.”
“ No Ron, you go. I know if I go, you'll both finish off all the blackberries without me.”
Tommy told him, “ Don’ t to be silly. There's no way we can eat all the blackberries. See what it is she's wants.”
