Summer is here, bringing with it plenty of the insects we all love to hate: the mosquitoes. It may seem as if mosquitoes bite everyone and everything, but believe it or not, they are very picky eaters. They are only likely to bite someone that they think smells good, just as we are only likely to eat food that smells good.
Mosquitoes are attracted to the natural smells that our bodies give off. Carbon dioxide and lactic acid are two of the chemicals that mosquitoes are most attracted to. Both of them are released through our breath and skin. Mosquitoes are also attracted to the smells given off by the soaps, perfumes, shampoos, and body lotions that we use every day.
So the next time a mosquito bites you, remember, it is a compliment: The mosquito just likes the way you smell!
