從科學(xué)的角度來看，人的心就是人體內(nèi)輸送血液的重要部份。但是，對(duì)我們大多數(shù)人來說，人的心要比這意義深遠(yuǎn)的多，它不僅是維持生命所不可缺少的一部份肌體，而且也是人的各種感情的源泉。今天我們?cè)賮碇v個(gè)和“心”，也就是英文里的 “heart”這個(gè)字有關(guān)的習(xí)慣用語：My heart stood still。我們上面已經(jīng)說過，“heart”就是心， stood 就是 stand 的過去時(shí)，意思是站著， still 就是靜止的、不動(dòng)的。大家可能從字面上已經(jīng)猜到 My heart stood still 的意思了。 My heart stood still 就是指某件事使你非常害怕，或驚恐，以致你的心臟都幾乎停止跳動(dòng)了。我們來舉個(gè)例子吧：
"My heart stood still when the other car ran through the red light and I knew we were about to crash."
這個(gè)人說：“當(dāng)我看到那輛汽車穿紅燈的時(shí)候，我知道我們要撞車了。我的心都好像停止跳動(dòng)了?！?BR> 這種心情不僅會(huì)出現(xiàn)在自己處于危險(xiǎn)的時(shí)候，在看到別人遭到危險(xiǎn)的時(shí)候也同樣會(huì)產(chǎn)生類似的情景。下面這個(gè)例子就能說明這一點(diǎn)：
"I have to tell you my heart stood still when I saw that baby fall into the water. But that boy jumped right in after the kid and pulled him out before he went under -- that boy deserves a medal!"
這個(gè)人說：“我告訴你，當(dāng)我眼看那小孩掉下水去的時(shí)候真是把我嚇得幾乎連心都停止跳動(dòng)了。但是，那個(gè)年輕人立即就跳到水里，還沒等那小孩沉下水去，就把他救了出來。他真應(yīng)該得到一枚獎(jiǎng)?wù)?！?BR> in lieu of 代替
