He was making rather heavy weather of it。 (1) As I was only beginning to learn English, I made very heavy weather of a very simple comprehension exercise(我當(dāng)時初學(xué)英文時,做一個很簡單的理解練習(xí),也覺得很困難)。(2) He made heavy weather of repairing the roof, but it took him no more than three hours when he finally attended to the job(他把修理屋頂當(dāng)作天大難事,后來真正著手工作,卻只花了三小時)。
把復(fù)雜或嚴重的事當(dāng)作小事,則叫to make light of something,這個light是形容詞,指‘輕松’,例如:(1) To keep up his army's morale, the commander made light of his wound(司令官要維持軍隊士氣,即使受了傷,也當(dāng)作沒有大礙)。(2) You must not make light of his threats(你不可忽視他的恐嚇)。今天那段對話里的have a go和in person也值得談?wù)?。 (1) He had several goes without any success(他試了幾次,都不成功)。(2) You must come in person to collect the letter(你必須親自前來領(lǐng)取信件
