讀者大概都知道litter解作‘垃圾’,是不可數(shù)名詞(uncountable noun),例如:There is litter everywhere(處處都是垃圾)。 Our cat had a litter,可不要以為他的貓有些垃圾,更不要以為這個litter是不可數(shù)名詞,不可冠以a字。 (1) There were four kittens/puppies in the litter(那一窩小貓/小狗共有四只)。(2) She had a litter of (four) kittens/puppies(它生了一窩(四只)小貓/小狗)。一窩之中最弱小的一只,叫做the runt of the litter。I asked him for the runt of the litter即‘我問他要那窩小動物中最弱小的一只’。Litter也可作動詞,例如:Our mouser littered(我們的貓生了一窩小貓)。 I'm training my cat to use the litter box,可也不要誤會,以為他在訓練貓兒在盆中產(chǎn)子。 I bought some cat litter at the supermarket即‘我在超級市場買了些貓砂’。 有關(guān)的人、物’,例如dearie(寶貝)、lassie(小姑娘)、doggie(小狗)、oldie(老人)、movie(電影)、nudie(*電影)、walkie-talkie(無線電通話機)等。
