人臉部的表情總是很豐富的，而且也是最吸引人的地方。所以英文中與人的臉部相關的片語很多，在接下來的幾講里我們就給大家介紹幾個。
今天我們要學習的第一個有關“臉”的片語是：on the face of it.
On the face of it, what you said is completely correct, but you will find that it is wrong if you analyze it carefully.
(從表面上看，你說的完全正確，但是如果你仔細分析的話，它錯了。)
這里on the face of it意思就是“從表面上看”。從字面上我亦就可以看出，這個片語的意思指“在某物的臉部(表面)上”。It was used to say that something seems true but that you think there may be other facts about it which are not yet clear.當我們說有些事情可能正確，但是仔細一想時就發(fā)現(xiàn)這些事情中還有一些不太清楚的地方時，我們就可以用這個片語了。如：
She has good looks, intelligence and dancing ability. Not only do teachers praise her, girls admire her, but boys love her as well. On the face of it, she seems almost perfect. But below her surface, deep in her heart, she still has some terrible secret, which has not been concealed.
(她長得漂亮，人又聰明，擅長跳舞。不但老師們稱贊她，女孩子們欽佩她，而且男孩子們喜愛她。從表面上看，她幾乎是完美的。但是在她的外表之下，在內(nèi)心深處，她仍有一些不為人知的可怕秘密。)
今天我們要學習的第二個片語是：a slap in the face. 先看一個例句：
Jasper white is a great football player but he always says that his team woundn’t have won any games without him this whole tournament. That was a slap in the face to his teammates.
(Jasper white是一個優(yōu)秀的足球運動員，但他總是說在這整個賽季如果他的球隊沒有他就不會贏得任何比賽。對他的隊友來講這就是一個侮辱)
這里片語 a slap in the face意思就是指“侮辱、侮辱之舉”。Slap本來的意思是指一巴掌，字面的意思是“如同被打了一巴掌”。如果一個人被給了一巴掌，可見其又難堪之極了。讓我們來看一看朗文詞典的英英解釋： It is an action that seems to be deliberately intended to offend or upset someone, especially someone who has tried very hard to do something.
再看一個例子：
When Karen found out that his direct manager had delivered his task that he was trying to work out to one of his workmates, it was like a slap in the face.
(當Karen發(fā)現(xiàn)他的直接領導把他正在努力完成的工作轉(zhuǎn)交給他的一個同事時，就像被打了一巴掌一樣。)
當然這個句子也可譯為“當Karen發(fā)現(xiàn)他的直接領導把他正在努力完成的任務轉(zhuǎn)交給他的一個同事時，它就像是個侮辱”，不過譯為前者顯得更傳神一些。
