A man was tired of living in his old house in the country. He wanted to sell it and buy a better one. He tried to sell it for a long time, but was not successful. So at last, he decided to solve the problem by using an agent.
The agent soon put an advertisement on a magazine. A few days later, the owner saw a very attractive picture of the house, with a wonderful description of its gardens, on an expensive magazine.
After the house owner had read the advertisement through, he at once telephoned the agent and said to him, "I'm sorry, Jones, but I've decided not to sell my house after all. After reading your advertisement in the magazine, I can see that it's just the kind of house I've wanted to live in all my life."
6.Why did the man want to sell his house?
He needed some money.
He didn't like to live in the countryside.
He didn't like living in it any more.
7.Why did he go to an agent?
He failed to sell the house himself.
He thought he could get more money from the agent.
He had no time to deal with the selling himself.
8.What did the agent do then?
He advertised the man's house on a magazine.
He sold the house quickly.
He painted a beautiful picture of the house.
9.What did the man decide to do at last?
To get a house with a beautiful garden.
To keep the original house for himself.
To sell the house at a much higher price.
A young boy was playing with a ball in the street. He kicked the ball so hard that it broke the window of a house and fell inside. A lady came to the window with the ball and shouted at the young boy. The boy was frightened and ran away.
A few minutes later he returned and knocked at the door of the house. When the lady answered it, he said, "My father is coming to repair your window very soon."
After a few more minutes a man came to the door, tools in hand. The lady let the boy take his ball away.
When the man finished repairing the window, he said to the lady, "That will cost you exactly 10 dollars."
"But aren't you the father of that young boy?" the woman asked, looking surprised.
"No," he answered, equally surprised. "But aren't you his mother?"
10.Why did the lady get angry and shout at the boy?
Because the boy broke the window of her house.
Because the boy almost knocked her down before he saw her.
Because the boy's ball hit her in the face.
11.Who did the boy say would come to repair the window?
The boy himself. The boy's mother. The boy's father.
12.Why did the lady allow the boy to take the ball away?
Because the boy was lovely and honest.
Because she believed what the boy said.
Because she had already repaired the window.
13.How much money did the repairman ask for when he finished repairing the window?
More than ten dollars. Ten dollars in all. Less than ten dollars.
