But amid jubilant scenes like those usually reserved for India’s many festivals, Palaniappan Chidambaram, the reformist finance minister, urged people “to invest wisely” after a buying spree pushed the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index of Top 30 shares to a high of 10,082.28, up 1.02 per cent at the close.

Yesterday the RBI’s warning was distant as foreign investors – many of whom, including Capital, Fidelity and the government of Singapore’s affiliates gathered in Jaipur for one of the largest-ever India-investor conferences – kept up their buying spree of Indian securities.
